Explaining my poem, “Phases of Life”

Explaining poetry isn’t something I do often, because I feel art will always be subjective and with poetry, because words are in play, it can easily sway someone towards a certain emotion. Also, I don’t always have a reason as to why I wrote a poem, but I do have after emotions and after thoughts when reading my poetry, even when it’s painting. I want to touch on my thoughts & depictions about my poetry, after the fact, rather than why I wrote it, while sometimes it may be more fitting to do so.

This poem is a depiction of the journey of life, the parts that follow us as we grow. While those parts are different for everyone, confusion can often be something everyone feels at some point in life and more than once. I think the aspect I want explored is the phrase, “more than once.” Sometimes we are quick to tell ourselves, never again, only to get to the moment in life where we say “not again.”

The fact is, we all will have that, “again moment” and it doesn’t need to be in the extreme sense and it’s ok. While we go through life dealing with the new and old it truly gets stressful. I think positive perspective at times doesn’t hurt, especially when questions become foggy or irrational. Especially when dealing with trauma based experiences and personally, as you grow positively in areas of your life, other areas may feel stagnant in thought and that can be due to many things like trauma based experiences.

All in all, I’ve learned from 2018 to now that you will always have periods of life that will cause confusion and a strain of emotions. That’s guaranteed, but how learn to deal with these unexpected experiences at times is to deal with our perspective on things and life in general.

In conclusion, I hope you like this new format I’ll be doing from time to time, explaining my poems, either directly, indirectly, or present moment depictions I may take from my own poetry. Poetry is beautiful because sometimes different poems can mean different meanings at different times of my life and that is why I leave each poem up for its own interpretation, just as poetry will always be regardless. For me, this is also a great way to extend my thoughts I care about to you in a more personalized way. Although I feel I could write more on this poem and it’s correlation to life’s experiences, I think this should do for now.
